Young people in the Balkans are often underrepresented in urban development processes, despite being key to building sustainable and inclusive communities. A lack of skills, platforms for expression, and access to participation opportunities leads to limited civic engagement, particularly among youth with fewer opportunities or from marginalised groups. This hinders the development of a sense of community belonging and leadership capacity among young people.
The Youth Placemaking Balkans (YPB) project aims to empower young people through the placemaking approach, directly involving them in transforming public spaces. Through trainings, local initiatives, and a regional network, YPB builds skills in active recreation, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The project emphasises sustainability, inclusion, and digitalisation, encouraging youth to become active citizens and catalysts for positive change in their communities.
