The Balkan region faces severe climate-related challenges, ranging from poor waste management and unplanned urbanisation to increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Local communities often lack the knowledge, tools, and support needed to respond to these risks effectively. Moreover, collaboration among citizens, public authorities, and experts remains limited, hindering the implementation of effective and sustainable solutions at both local and regional levels.
The Placemaking for Climate Mitigation (P4CM) project, led by BG Be Active and funded by the EU, uses placemaking as a tool to empower citizens and reimagine public spaces for greater climate resilience. Through collaborative interventions, training sessions, and dialogue, the project connects local communities, municipal administrations, and experts to co-create green, highly adaptable solutions. The approach fosters participation, co-creation, and (inter)regional cooperation to transform ordinary places into resilient hubs of community impact.
