Share The City: Mapping the Post-communist Status Quo

Anyone who knows BG Be Active close knows how great our passion is about innovating urban spaces with the help of communities, creating social space and activating people to take the lead in this process. Western good practices are many, inspiring and seemingly feasible, but adopting them to the East always turns out to be a challenge that we encountered when we launched our „Spot“ project in 2017. After investing in activating people and building up 20 spaces across Bulgaria, the challenge seems even bigger.

That’s why when we appeared in the international edition of „Cities magazine“, and more precisely in the number # 1/2017, we found answers to many questions and inspirations to motivate ourselves. The magazine is part of an international project among some of the most beautiful cities in Central and Eastern Europe – Budapest, Prague, Bratislava, Warsaw, Katowice and Belgrade. „Shared Cities: Creative Impulse“ as a project aims to improve the quality of life in the mentioned European cities by exploring aspects of sharing and urban design, creating new ways of living in cities. Together.[vc_row row_type=“row“ use_row_as_full_screen_section=“no“ type=“full_width“ text_align=“left“ css_animation=““][vc_column][vc_column_text]The project partnership should be aimed at creating various conditions, including the creation of conditions for the development of any space.

Living in the city, we are accustomed to sharing – green areas, bus seats, even the air we breathe. We know that sharing a car or an apartment can be very useful. Instead of owning a bicycle, we can hire one. Sharing has become a part of urban life. Wait a minute: could we even share our clothes, our skills or the wifi password with the others?

When you come across such a project, you become jealous of the fact that you are not part of it. That’s why we just became part of it – by taking the initiative to translate the first edition of the magazine into the project and to promote it in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian edition is available in digital format, and hopefully soon on paper too. You can download the Bulgarian version here: 2019-06-24_Cities-Magazine_bg-ver_digital
